Machine transportation for Lerinc Machine Tools & Automation
We now have a long-standing, trusting business relationship with Lerinc. In German-speaking countries, Lerinc has been one of the leading trading companies for machine tools used worldwide for almost 30 years.
Transportation and assembly are always a new challenge due to the different requirements of the machines. Many years of experience and a fleet of vehicles specially designed for such tasks form the basis for a smooth process.
The task
The operation at the Heilighaus site involved the pre-collection and loading of two machines including accessories. The loaded machines then had to be transported over 125 kilometers to Gronau, unloaded and brought in at ground level.
- With the MAP PRO.E2, a vertical machining center had to be moved for various manufacturing tasks. The PRO.E series is based on a compact machine design with a tried-and-tested cross table design, with which many standard machining operations can be carried out precisely and economically, thanks in part to the machine’s extensive basic equipment. Control system, tool spindle, internal spiral conveyor, chip flushing, coolant tank with a capacity of several hundred liters, tool magazine and a few more equipment parts are included in the scope of delivery. However, even with a compact model such as the PRO.E2, the installation dimensions are approx. 2.1 x 3.2 x 3 meters (width x depth x height). The machine also weighs around 6,600 kilograms.
- The TS series from TAKISAWA is also designed for complete machining. It therefore enables precise and dynamic high-performance machining. As a combined CNC lathe, the TS-4000YS is suitable for workpieces with variable batch sizes that are used in medical, aircraft and construction machinery manufacturing, for example. The dimensions of the TS-4000YS are similar to those of the PRO.E2: the machine has a footprint of 3 x 2.1 meters and a height of 2.3 meters. The weight is slightly higher at 8,000 kilograms, especially as a chip conveyor adds an additional 500 kilograms.
The challenge
Thanks to our long-standing partnership with Lerinc, we are familiar with the machines to be transported. Nevertheless, every job presents its own challenges. In addition to the weight and size of the machines, access to them is also a critical factor.
In this case, there was also the fact that we were not allowed to drive our equipment into certain areas of the hall where the machines were housed. One of the special features of the job was therefore to find a suitable solution to move the heavy weight in a relatively compact form in a limited space.
The solution
Given the conditions described above, we chose the Versa-Lift 25/35 because the special forklift truck has two important features in common with the machines it is to send on their journey to Gronau: It is also compact and flexible to use.
The Versa-Lift is specially designed for lifting and transporting particularly heavy loads. Its lifting capacity reaches up to 16,300 kilograms – more than enough to lift the MAP PRO.E2 and the TAKISAWA TS-4000YS. This performance is made possible by a hydraulically telescoping counterweight, which can be used to adjust the center of gravity to the weight of the transported goods.
However, this is by no means the only advantage that the Versa-Lift has for applications such as Lerinc’s:
- The special forklift truck can optionally be equipped with forks and/or a crane arm. In this case, the forks were the obvious choice: On the one hand, their length is perfectly sufficient to easily pick up the weight of the two machines and lift them safely. Secondly, this made loading onto the truck much easier.
- With a width of just over 1.5 meters, the Versa-Lift is “slim” enough and can therefore be used even in confined spaces.
- Thanks to its gas drive, it can be used safely indoors as no exhaust fumes are produced. The Versa-Lift 25/35 was therefore the logical choice for the assembly job in Heilighaus, and the forks provided a perfectly adequate lifting height to accommodate the machines on the truck bed.
Machine loading
On site in Heilighaus, the two machines were already prepared for their removal. Wrapped in protective film and placed on wooden beams, our team was able to pick up both machines with the forks of the Versa-Lift without any difficulty. Maneuvering backwards out of the hall also went smoothly thanks to their great experience and prudence.
Our team had already taken precautions in advance to ensure that the machines were stable in the vehicle. To ensure safe transportation, care was taken to distribute the loads evenly across the truck’s axles. In addition, the two machines were carefully secured with chains to ensure the necessary load securing.
The dimensions of the machines made it possible to store them under the tarpaulin of the trailer. This ensured the necessary protection from the weather. Once the machines had been successfully loaded, the transport to Gronau, around 125 kilometers away, could begin.
Our experienced team and the use of the Versa-Lift 25/35 also successfully mastered the unloading and installation at the destination.
